How to Create a Medicare.gov Account

A simple step-by-step guide

A secure Medicare.gov account gives you access to your personal Medicare information online. You can use your account to view your coverage, add your prescription drugs and pharmacies, compare prescription drug plan costs and access other Medicare information.

If you don’t already have an account, follow the steps below to get started.

Before You Begin

We recommend you use a computer or an iPad/tablet (not your phone).

Have your red, white and blue Medicare card nearby.

You will also want access to:

  • An email address you can check
  • Your Medicare Number
  • Your Medicare Part A coverage information, if applicable
  • Your phone or another device if Medicare.gov asks you to verify your identity

Important: Your Medicare Number is different from your Social Security number. Your Medicare Number is printed on your Medicare card.

Simply follow the steps below or download the quick guide.
